Over at World Weaver Press we are trés excited for our second anniversary. It's been a lot of work -- and a lot of fun -- starting a small press from scratch, but I'm thrilled with what we've accomplished, and what we're continuing to become.

We all recently watched the President give his State of the Union address... okay, I didn't watch even though I should have. I did watch people complaining about it on Twitter, however. But listening to Tweets blaming one single person for all that's wrong in the entire government and/or country feels futile, even more futile on Twitter, and is a bit like blaming Steven Moffat exclusively for all that's wrong with Doctor Whoof recent… then again, I do the latter all the time.
I think Peter Capaldi will be a wonderful Doctor, but I don't know if one actor can save a show whose storytelling has been declining even as its rabid fans have been growing more, well... rabid. At the same time, I firmly believe that if Joss Whedon took over running the show, most if not all of its current problems could be solved. Like this astute observation about grief and Doctor Who. Or this equally astute observation about the unmet potential of River Song. If Doctor Who was a Whedon production, both those problems would be nipped. Other problems would arise, but I digress. The reason I brought up the State of the Union was to make a comparison to my State of World Weaver Press address not to air my bitterness over the most boring regeneration ever and the creation of a plot hurdle-that-never-should-have-been (Ten regenerated twice? That wasn’t a regeneration, that was leftover regeneration energy, the way you’d box up meatloaf for lunch the next day, not the cooking of a brand new meal!) and how it’s written the show into a corner: unless he continues to get timely regeneration energy enemas, this is the Doctor's last incarnation and it's come one actor too early. |
