My friend asked, "So how much snow do you expect up there?"
"Enough," I told him, "to bury a Dalek."
And I was probably right. I'm not sure what the official Dalek height is, but I figure it's somewhere between four and five feet (of course, variable depending on if you're talking classic Daleks, newer Daleks, or the shiny crayon-colored new-new Daleks). I'm hoping we don't get four feet of snow all at once -- we've not gotten much snow at all just yet -- but we'll definitely get an accumulation over time. I anticipate more and more and more as the real winter months of January, February, and March (yes, March is still winter in the north) make their marks on 2014.
Then I got thinking about it . . . how every time I rounded a heap of plowed snow, I'd be waiting for the Dalek to roll out from behind it, while ominous music played nearby. And other than creeping myself out, I decided that having enough snow to bury a Dalek was not a good descriptor.
"Scratch that," I said. "We're gonna get enough snow to build a Dalek."
And so the Winter 2014 Quest was born. I'm already gathering supplies and sculpting materials. Now, we just need the snow.
